MEET THE PERSON BEHIND CANCER CARE

Cancer affects everyone

In our lifetime, cancer touches us all – a family member, an old school friend, or even ourselves. Today, thanks to early detection and advances in treatment, survival rates are higher than ever.

Radiation therapy is one of the most effective tools in the fight against cancer, delivered by highly skilled radiation therapists. Often misunderstood or mistaken for others, they are there in some of the most vulnerable moments, helping patients fight, heal, and live.

Behind the scenes: what radiation therapists really do.

A Radiation Therapist is a vital part of the cancer care team, working closely with Radiation Oncologists to plan and deliver targeted radiation treatments. They use advanced imaging and computer systems to calculate the precise dose needed for each patient, aiming to destroy cancer cells while protecting healthy tissue. With skill and precision, they operate sophisticated equipment to ensure the treatment is safe, effective, and tailored to each patient’s needs.

"We pinpoint tumours and deliver a very targeted dose of radiation."

Meet Eddie and discover what his role as a radiation therapist involves,
from daily responsibilities to the impact he makes in patient care.
